Sleep Number Provides A Good Night’s Sleep For Disabled Survivors

Many of the impacts from Hurricane Harvey were reflected in terms of statistics. The $125 billion in damage caused by the storm and the 200,000 lives impacted tell the story of a devastating hurricane, but don’t convey the story of individuals affected. Although the storm had an immense impact on everyday citizens, Hurricane Harvey was especially devastating to those who had pre-existing physical conditions. The 27 trillion gallons of water from the second biggest storm in US history fell on the citizens of Texas indiscriminately – those who were bed-ridden were just as drenched as those who weren’t. One of these survivors was introduced to Good360 through Disaster Assistance Ministries of Texas. James Keys lost both of his legs in a train accident. Since then, one of his only sources of comfort was his medical bed. However, since the destruction of his bed by Hurricane Harvey, Mr. Keys has been sleeping on a cot. Although his caretaker and sister did what she could to ensure his comfort, certain pieces of medical equipment are sometimes necessary for recovery and, unfortunately, out of reach for the average budget. Good360’s partner Sleep Number has been steadily active in mattress distribution to survivors since the disaster began. As a company, Sleep Number recognized the need for survivors to have a comfortable and dignified place to sleep throughout their recovery. Their donation didn’t stop at their standard fare, however. Good360’s partnership with Sleep Number facilitated Mr. Keys’ recovery with a brand new adjustable i8 Smart Bed that will benefit him for years to come. Mr. Keys had the following to say about the donation: “I have not slept on anything this comfortable for a long time. Your act of kindness is very appreciated by me and my sister who takes care of me.
